CALS Global Fellows Program (GFP) and Sehgal Foundation partnership event, November 7 S M Sehgal Foundation is one of three placements for the Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Global Fellowship Program in India in summer 2021. The other two are the NGO Sathguru and the Tata-Cornell Institute. On November 7, 2020, Ms. Meenakshi Mrinalini, Sehgal Foundation internship coordinator, former Borlaug-Ruan intern Ms. Alice Huang, now a PhD student in Applied & Engineering Physics at Cornell, and Ms. Jane Schukoske, advisor based in the US, will participate in a webinar information session for undergraduate students of the college.

4:00 PM - 5:30 PM (CST) Saturday, November 21, 2020 Sehgal Foundation, in the US, will host a special end-of-year campaign where young people in the US will be pitching projects to support young people across rural India. Policy Consultation on Infusing Evidence in Rural Policy Sehgal Foundation organized a virtual policy consultation in collaboration with J-PAL on October 21, 2020, including stakeholders from government, civil society, and corporations. The overarching purpose of the event was to feature evidence in rural policy-making processes. The event opened with a plenary session represented by Ms. Neelima Khetan, Sehgal Foundation board member and Dr. Ramesh Chand, member, NITI Aayog. The plenary was followed by three thematic discussions focused on agriculture development, education, and empowering women.

Check Dams Brim with Water, Community Rejoices Three check dams constructed by Sehgal Foundation on Chitravati river in Kodur village, Chilamatur Mandal, Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, through Coca-Cola Foundation under the Jaldhara V program were filled with water after rains in the region. In nearby villages, farmers were very happy to see huge water storage in the Chitravati river. Their happiness was shown by activities, including swimming in the check dam storage water, bathing, and sightseeing. In addition, check dams constructed under a project supported by DCB Bank in Maharashtra were also filled with water, which recharges the groundwater.

Webinar on Mental Well-Being Ms. Pooja O. Murada, principal lead, Outreach for Development, spoke as part of a panel discussion on “Mental Health Matters” organized jointly by 1Wellness Clinic and Rajbala Foundation on October 10, 2020. The webinar offered views from psychologists and academicians about how mental issues play out in rural areas and can be effectively addressed with the use of community radio programming.

JalKalp Biosand Filter Training Sehgal Foundation conducted a two-day training on JalKalp biosand filter technology for Humana People to People India, Nathupur, New Delhi. Following all the safety precautions, participants helped each other understand the household water technology and made this a successful program. Baby Shows Conducted in Poshan Maah Starting last year, September has been celebrated as the National Poshan Maah (nutrition month). This year’s theme is complementary feeding and aligning with the #EatRight motto. Sehgal Foundation teams in district Samastipur, Bihar, organized baby shows under the BioMérieux project on the Annaprashan Divas (grain initiation day). A session was organized on the complementary foods for infants and awareness on the height and weight ratio of children under five years of age.

On Record: Online Stand-up Comedy Show Community radio (CR) Alfaz-e-Mewat team members, Anuradha Dubey and Arti Manchanda Grover, performed at a stand-up comedy event in collaboration with CR stations on October 23 as part of the October Jam organized by Maraa, a media and arts collective. Maraa collaborated with a network of thirteen CR stations with support from UNESCO IPDC. As part of the process, the CRs explored the potential of comedy as a useful form to talk about the times we are in and share complex serious social issues through a lighter lens.
